Many of the most critical voices you’re hearing right now are the same people who got us into war & who think we should stay forever. Some are bought and paid for by the defense industry. So let me say unequivocally: President Biden made the right decision to withdraw our troops.

Now, it is our moral responsibility to immediately admit more refugees and to ensure the safety of those who aided the United States throughout this conflict. As of this morning, the U.S. evacuated about 37,000 individuals from Afghanistan. We need to continue at this pace.

The problem is that the Taliban gets to decide whether or not people can go to the airport, and they’re not going to let us just do this for however long we wish. That’s why the evacuation should’ve been begun much sooner. 37,000 is a fraction of who should have been evacuated.

This is why the original agreement made by Trump shouldn’t have been made in the first place!

They were told that they had to get there act together if they wanted to leave. Fortunately or in this case unfortunately american citizens don’t have to check in with any American Embassy’s when they travel to another country.
Marianne, the US has not been able to drive from the embassy to the airport in Kabul for years. They have helicoptered everyone in since at least 2019. Were we supposed to re-invade Kabul before we pulled out to establish this capability?

The problem is that this should have begun as soon as the treaty was signed. Trump and the GOP had 11 months to plan this, to start pulling people out and they did nothing. This is a GOP planned this clusterfuck to make Biden look bad.

The Biden Admin has competently navigated two crises exacerbated by the previous President. First the vaccine program, now walking a tight rope with little to no room for negotiating with the Taliban yet getting results. All while dealing with a hyper reactionary press. Not bad.
