I understand those who think we should have left. I also understand some of those who think we should’ve stayed. What I cannot comprehend is anyone minimizing or glossing over the abject terror of 20 million women.

listen I'm not down with all the people dumping on you. but it's a mistake to assume the US was ever there to help women. Did a certain *class* of them benefit? sure, and I'm all for bringing as many as want to come to the US. But it's not enough to justify the horrors we wrought

I’m not saying we were there to help women but I’m saying that women were helped. Two things are true here at the same time. Two evils coexist. Willfully downplaying either of them is erasing the suffering and terror of millions of people, itself a form of violence against them.

How many sons, brothers, husbands and fathers did we strip from those women? How many of their children did we kill? That did not help any women. By arming the taliban then fighting them in Afghanistan *we* made the lives of women living worse.

Marianne what about the children being abused by our Afghan allies? What about the countless women and children the US directly killed via air strikes. At some point just admit that you are spewing propaganda. google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes…

This is the excuse we always use to stay in wars where we’re largely not wanted. It’s a cost of our lives. Kurdistan wanted us there. Afghanistan does not. (Baluchistan should be free.) I don’t think we should even trade with dictatorships, and that’s really what has to change.

No they weren't. The US bombed women and children indiscriminately for 20 years. Empowered the taliban the previous 20 years. The US ignored the puppet government we installed as they raped women and children. The US raped women and children while we were there.
2
We gave up helping women the moment we paid the taliban to overthrow their democratic government in the 70s. Stop embarrassing yourself by acting like you suddenly care about the women over there.

Women and children were raped while we were there. By Afghani men, while US troops stood by. Research this. It was widespread. Also, US troops have raped people in that country. Rape is always a tool of war and occupying forces

I think us White people need to let others sort their own problems and sit the fuck down. Cause we tried to "rule" the white way. News flash, we are now on crash course with extinction. So maybe we need to offer refuge to those in need but not meddle more than that
Women weren't helped. Over 20 years, Afghanistan was still the worst place to be for a woman. It never climbed. Not one bit. Tens of thousands of women were killed by US bombs so I guess that's helping them right?

that we helped anybody but the corps that pillaged the resources & sold the heroin is simply not true. we've decimated every country we've 'visited' w/ our mandates to hand over everything they own & submit. we have RADICALIZED so many, manifesting in females having it worse.
