I understand those who think we should have left. I also understand some of those who think we should’ve stayed. What I cannot comprehend is anyone minimizing or glossing over the abject terror of 20 million women.

It's not glossing over. It's recognition. "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference." -me

You've more bandwidth than most and spent your life processing trauma (yours and other's). You've known a different America than most. Lots of us struggle to empathize because we are in distress with fires in our own backyards. Love you & Grateful you care ❤️

*raises hand* I too am most concerned about the innocent lives caught the cross fires here. Women absolutely 💯 Priority.

No one is minimizing it. But its Orwellian to link the Women's rights to the need for US occupation in Afghanistan. With that same logic why not UAE too then?

20 million is a big army. We should've made them the security forces. They wouldn't have folded in 24 hrs.

The bottom line is we couldn't realistically help these women unless the UN committed to the task of nation building and peace keeping for the indefinite future until Afghan society changed and we shouldn't have promised them anything unless the UN did.
