I understand those who think we should have left. I also understand some of those who think we should’ve stayed. What I cannot comprehend is anyone minimizing or glossing over the abject terror of 20 million women.

There are a lot of gaps between what Maryann actually said and the responses Im seeing. It is possible to hold humanity in your heart whilst understanding that politically you may have to do things that go against the heart. One of the many paradoxes of being human.

To some extent we need to recognize reality of culture and mentality. No society is a collection of sadists. Those women are mothers, daughters, wives and sisters of those men. Societal mores live deep within a culture, in men and women, and true liberation must come from within.
