Whether it's the abuser who leaves or the victim, a clean break of no contact is best. Surely we feel empathy for the victims suffering and could even offer support or aid for basic needs, but no physical presence, military support... anywhere...

Afghans are not a charity case. This paternalistic world view has been and will be the problem. Want to actually care about them? How about some empathy - rather than this outpour of sympathy casting them as powerless in their own future.
