Tell me again how this woman’s suffering doesn’t matter.
Incredibly powerful interview with @sahraakarimi in Afghanistan this morning on @BBCRadioScot - I've taken this excerpt below because it is so brutally honest and from the heart, but please do go listen to the whole thing. @Fionasstalker

What a bad faith argument, Ms. Williamson, characterizing those who know better than you on this issue that way.
Even if there's some merit to the suddenly convenient "save feminism" argument in Afghanistan, the US military has no moral high ground to preach it or implement it.

Things the PDPA government did in Afghanistan: * Set up minimum wage * Massively expanded public education & healthcare * Huge literacy campaign * Started eradicating opium poppy cultivation * Land reform * Established public education for women No wonder the US didn't like it

It matters, she matters, and they matter. It all matters. But there's a difference between acknowledging it matters, and setting up a permanent occupied police-state in order to force Western values on another culture – no matter how morally superior we may feel.

No one anywhere said it doesn't matter. We just don't think America needs to pay the price for it any longer. The Afghanistan people were given the tools to fight the Taliban off yet they refuse. How do you fix THAT?
Replying to @marwilliamson
Are you proposing that we stay in Afghanistan? A similar or worse story can be produced of women in the U.S. Given the choice, who should be remedied by our tax $ if we can't remedy both?

Keep preaching about the suffering of others while you support the ppl doing it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Seriously, take a break.

Idiot America should have trained the women on how to protect themselves. Was there any training? So horrifying this suffering. America should be in charge of accommodating women who want to leave. Pay for and get settled. We've made it worse but staying will also make it worse
