Tolerance of systemic violence against women can’t be justified in the name of anti-imperialism, helping other human beings isn’t “a savior complex,” and leaving the most powerless & desperate people to fend for themselves in the hour of their agony isn’t political sophistication

“Just gotta run back over to Afghanistan because we left our phone charger there and gonna liberate some women while I’m inside. Just wait in the car we’ll be right back….. yes we can go to the In-N-Out Burger on the way home.”

If we were there for 20 years and able to accomplish absolutely nothing what do you think another 20 will do? Genuinely asking

Maybe consider the bigger geopolitical motives the US military industrial complex took up residence in Afghanistan for the last 20 yrs & it wasn't about women's rights. They share a border with China. Did the US intend to watch Communism fail like USSR then try to exploit it?

Marianne, seriously, 20 years. Safe to say another 20 will not amount to much. The mission wasn’t to help afghan women. What’s happening right now is proof of it.

There's no argument against helping the helpless. The argument is against the "help" being a US military intervention. By all objective measures, 20 years of data show US in that region has failed.

I hate to say this because I really, really respect you, but your understanding of the US military & how they exert influence lacks sophistication 💔
