Tolerance of systemic violence against women can’t be justified in the name of anti-imperialism, helping other human beings isn’t “a savior complex,” and leaving the most powerless & desperate people to fend for themselves in the hour of their agony isn’t political sophistication

i don’t question acts of solidarity and humanity Williamson I do question that the U.S. gov’t should in any way be an arbiter of them, which of them are sanctioned U.S out of Afghanistan

So should the US invade and occupy every country without equal rights for women? Enforce women's rights?

Awkward......
Before the US ever occupied Afghanistan, the CIA forked over billions to warlords like Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, who was notorious for throwing acid on female students’ faces, in order to topple a Soviet-backed govt that tried to provide women with free education.

How many more decades shall we subject Afghanistan to war? We cannot change that country and it’s not our job, particularly when our primary weapon is violence. We have ripped plenty of families apart. We cannot solve the problem.
