Tolerance of systemic violence against women can’t be justified in the name of anti-imperialism, helping other human beings isn’t “a savior complex,” and leaving the most powerless & desperate people to fend for themselves in the hour of their agony isn’t political sophistication

You're losing this one Marianne, it's okay to be wrong. We've all been wrong at some point. You don't have to admit it but I certainly wouldn't keep arguing your position. I'm glad I agree with you on most things, just not this one though.

Marianne, what do you think Afghan women find to be the most helpful aspect of the American military presence—predator drones bombing their homes/weddings, or US soldiers with lax trigger discipline simply opening fire on civilians in the street?

not occupying and bombing a country = tolerance for violence against women? Well we don’t bomb ourselves except in Philly and Tulsa so I guess…

What did you think was happening to those women and their children under American bombs Marianne? The greatest threat to Afghan civilians has been from American air strikes not the Taliban.

A coworker of mine is an Afghanistan veteran. He was talking to me about how there are not many men left from his unit anymore. I was like, oh, because they were killed in action? No, many of them succumbed to drugs or suicide.

Maybe one day a country will invade the U.S., force their way of living on us and refuse to leave because they don't like the way we jail and shoot unarmed Black people.

We all realize women are not invincible against drones, right? I’m not blowing minds when I say this

So Afghani women were doing so great during 20 years of US imperialist war in their country? And during the Afghan War in the 1980s, which created the Taliban in the first place? US imperialism IS the problem & pointing that out isn't tolerating systemic violence.

The United States can’t transform the society of an ancient land in which it has no historical roots or significant cultural presence. Please leave the Afghan people alone to work out their own solutions in a part of the world only they fully understand.
