Tolerance of systemic violence against women can’t be justified in the name of anti-imperialism, helping other human beings isn’t “a savior complex,” and leaving the most powerless & desperate people to fend for themselves in the hour of their agony isn’t political sophistication

The military industrial complex spent nearly $100 billion, and 20 years, training the Afghan government forces. They're falling in less than a month. It is the height of privilege to watch what's happening unfold and think anything other than "they never wanted us there".

I love you, Marianne. But if the US had left Afghanistan alone in 1978 after they had a socialist Revolution that overthrew the monarchy, Afghanistan would be the Denmark of the Middle East now. Women in cities were liberated, went to schools & college & had professional careers.

If Afghanistan is about protecting women, feel free to explain our deference to Saudi Arabia.

No one said anything about tolerating abuse against women. But if you really believe that it’s the US goal to go there and help with that, I have land on Mars to sell you. They’ve been there for 20 years and haven’t changed a damn thing, why do you think? It’s not their agenda.

It is when you want to use the worlds most expensive and sophisticated killing machine to do it for you Marianne...especially when the people you will empower have their own issues with sexual assault and young boys. Quit justifying endless war.

This Afghanistan thing has a lot of people outing themselves as believers in benevolent imperialism.

Yes it can. Yes it is. Knowing when to fold them instead of hold them is.
