GP It's not wanting "as many people as possible to be able to live dignified lives" which makes you wild-eyed radical. It's wanting to use government force to take money from everyone else against their wills to achieve your Utopian pipe dream.

The media has manipulated the political narrative to cast those who simply want as many people as possible to be able to live dignified lives as wide-eyed radicals, and those who are unmoved by the rapid disintegration of both our democracy and planet as sober-thinking moderates.

I realize that’s the propaganda but it is promulgated on behalf of the ultra rich, who’d prefer that money be “taken from you” and given to them instead. Note that that does not grow the economy, whereas helping the middle class most assuredly does.

GP That's great. Do it on your own dime, then. Or found a charity to do so. Most of the federal budget is spent on entitlements already and it's crowding everything else out. Even if you tax all "the rich" at 100%, you won't pay for your Utopian dreams.

I have given plenty of my own dimes and have founded charities as well. But no amount of private charity can compensate for a basic lack of social justice. I don’t begrudge people their wealth but taxes etc. should support the common good. It’s not utopian to want a just world.
