Public policy is written by people who, by and large, believe the Government, not people, should be responsible for our lives. Until it becomes normal for people to expect to help each other no Government policy will ever come close to doing what liberals want it to do.
When the operating principle that guides public policy becomes serving the people and serving the planet as exposed to exploiting the people and exploiting the planet, the miracles that follow will stun us all.

That’s just silly.

The US was founded on the principle of Small Government with congregations and communities taking care of each other. Amazing the idea of compassionate citizenship is "silly" to you. How do you expect a government run by people to be compassionate if those people can't be

First of all, no it wasn’t. Read the constitution. Also, liberals and progressives don’t want “compassionate citizenship” any less than you do. We just want compassionate policies as well.

This isnt about left OR right. Its about the fact that the government was not ever supposed to get involved in the day to day lives of people. That job was, and still is, the responsibility of each person. Government as a safety net for those whose needs cant be met by friends,

family, neighbors, charitable organizations? Absolutely. Government as Parent? Government as Savior? Never. Especially when the people driving governmental policies are too self-centered to be *personally* caring for the people in their lives and communities.
