On August 6, 1945, U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. 3 days later, U.S. dropped a nuclear bomb on Nagasaki. 210,000 people were annihilated. Many more died from injuries, radiation poisoning, cancer. The U.S. is the only country to ever drop a nuclear bomb on people.

And we have about 7,000 of them in our arsenal today. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were like pinpricks compared to the destructive capacity of the nuclear bombs that exist today. Yet even now, we are in the process of ordering more.

And President Obama tried to have other nations to relinquish their material to make a nuclear bomb, (plutonium?) but I don't think the mission was finished.
