The problem is she destroyed the flow of history. You can't replace originals. The significance is that they were done by Jackie. Whatever is replaced becomes a copy.

The garden was restored to Bunny Mellon's vision. Many of the rose bushes you mentioned died years ago as their varieties weren't suited for the area. There's plenty to dislike about Mellie, but this rose garden isn't one of them.
