As long as economics is our bottom line we will continue to destroy the environment, build more nuclear bombs and systematically hoard wealth in the hands of a few. It’s not naive to choose love instead. What’s naive is to think we will survive another hundred years if we do not.

You may be thinking of ubiquitous bad economics or possibly something like greed or dodgy ethics. Real "economics," as a field of inquiry delving into economic matters, is consistent with love, ethics, and democracy.
