If past progressives had put “pragmatism first” there would never have been abolition, women’s suffrage, unions, child labor laws or civil rights legislation. Putting pragmatism first creates a pattern of chronic failure under the guise of making a sophisticated effort to succeed

Never was even "pragmatic". It's only pragmatic if their goal is absolutely no progress and doing everything the way the GOP wants. Personally I don't know how anyone thinks of the Democratic Party as anything but half of the scam mercilessly crushing the majority of this nation.
As someone else wrote elsewhere: Our Incrementalism. What a joke. Why even bother? They should just officially join the corporate damn Dems and stop pretending.

I don't think the "left" ... "Dems" want to succeed... Otherwise, we would have seen bold action and bold bills put forth. What we see instead are charades.

Spin words to keep the same ball rolling for all eternity. Wanting sincere change for the better, doesn't have to wobble on issues
“Pragmatics” are not progressive.

Maybe they mean the radical philosophical pragmatism of anti-War campaigners and education reformers like John Dewey, or anti-racist activists like Cornell West? Sadly, I don’t think that’s what they mean.
