Even Adam Smith said “free market capitalism cannot exist outside an ethical context.” What is amoral leads to immoral consequences. What is called the free market today - soulless and unethical - too often means freedom for far too few at the expense of freedom for far too many.

America is not a capitalistic society. It is a mixed economy for the most. What you are railing against is cronyism. In cronyism government plays an equally dirty role because of its abundant involvement in business. Such involvement is against the tenets capitalism.

Capitalism isn't capable of being ethical, so this is just a moot point.

Marx was a student of smith and in many ways communism expands on the positive aspects of the liberal revolution while mitigating the planet destroying oversights that came about as a result of capitalism expanding with colonialism and imperialism

Well, he was wrong, because we clearly do have the free market existing outside of an ethical context. Should we then call it something other than the free market? Should we call it something other than capitalism because it’s deemed unethical? This is pedantic.

So you think our corrupt United States Government should have control over our business! Where is the invocation and the excitement. Marianne, you are a Capitalist, look at all the money you made with your books and workshops, so many people follow you, pay for your services.

I’m grateful for Capitalism, it gives me freedom to think for myself and my family. Yes there a uber rich in this country but there a the small businesses like me who enjoy the challenge of staying open through the pandemic, employing people and creating a community!
