1/ In 1984 the Olympics were in Los Angeles and everybody acted like it was going to be awful and overcrowded and wanted to leave town. I don’t know why. I went to one of the events and it was something I’ll never forget. The energy was extraordinary.

2/ For those who read “A Return to Love,” that was when I got stood up by the guy who went to the opening ceremonies:) Never got so much mileage from a bad night. 😉

I was in the Republic of South Korea for the 1988 Olympics. I was stationed at Osan AirBase. Being in that tiny country during the Olympics was one of the more enjoyable experiences of my time in the Air Force.

Marianne, the 1984 Olympics resulted in huge expansions of racist police tactics and brutality, hundreds of young black men arrested for the color of their skin. If 2028 goes forward it’ll be even worse. knock-la.com/la-2028-olympic…

“Affordable to who? Maybe some billionaires.” Abdul from the Flower Drive Tenants Association talks about the “affordable housing” scam and recalls seeing the city gentrify from the 84 games

Many in Japan sense that their nation needs a new direction. The "Japan As No. 1" days (where China is now) are long gone. Infrastructure is all (over)built. To them, the Olympics are a painful, quite undemocratic anachronism. In middle of covid, a stupid one too.

It did real, lasting damage to the people of Los Angeles, and wasted billions of taxpayer money that could've been spent on something that actually matters.
