That’s why athletes using their spotlight for political statements is frowned upon by many. People want/need a break from activism and politics, for their peace of mind.
The Olympics represent an ancient effort to reconcile among nations. As corrupt as they can get at times (like now), they answer to a deep seated yearning for international cooperation. At best, they reflect an antidote to war. I’m all for keeping the dream alive.
