TW/CW abuse I am not a survivor of abuse but aren't these comparisons a bit inappropriate? The parallels in manipulation and abuse are very obvious between politics and interpersonal/ domestic relationships. Maybe so obvious that the analogy isn't necessary?
The Republican party is like a father who’s whipping you with a belt & the Democratic Party like a mother who’s so upset about it and she’s going to smother you with kisses & give you milk & cookies when the whipping is over. Which one do you think you’d grow up to be angrier at?

Not inappropriate at all. The same psychological patterns that play out in an individual’s life play out in the collective as well, because the collective is simply a group of individuals. Recognizing our patterns is part of the awakening that interrupts them.

I am not disputing the accuracy of the comparison. It just seems tautologically true that abuse functions in this way on individual and collective levels. So I don't understand what new understanding the comparison brings to the conversation.

Mommy needs to call 911. Mommy needs to get tough with daddy. Mommy needs to abolish the filibuster. Mommy needs to pass the “For the People Act.”
