We can either continue to allow a market-based orientation to organize our civilization, or we can stand a reasonable chance of the species surviving on the planet for another hundred years. We cannot have both.

"Our civilization" -> Its not our civilization that is suffering this ailment. Its the Angloamerican West, and the countries to which they pushed this religion to. Many countries, from China to New Zealand, prioritized their people over the stock market during the pandemic.
