Well the fundamental point certainly. Some aspects of the thread are a bit reductionist. But I remember the Daniel Goldhagen-Christopher Browning debate. Browning was clearly correct, but people didn't want to hear it so it was Goldhagen's book that became a bestseller.
And then there's other ordinary people, like my Dad, who make good things happen.
He was nearly killed twice helping put an end to it.
And if you look around, the good in people is far more common.

Indeed. Look at the works of Philip Zimbardo. His lectures shed some light on how almost anyone can “follow” a course of complying with certain “leaders” to do harmful things.
