1/ So basically we’re leaving Afghanistan after 20 years and the Taliban is now on its way to Kabul. Which means we wasted $2T and 2400 American lives for….nothing. The situation is not appreciably any better than it was when we went there.

2/ Yet even this year we’re spending $763B on defense because obviously we do such a bang up job. Hey kids: what do Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan all have in common? Wasted blood, wasted money, massive failure.

3/ The defense industry is no different than the fossil fuel industry or health insurance industry or any other corporate tyrant that allows profits to take precedence over human life. In the case of MIC, particularly heinous because of how much damage it does to other countries

4/ America’s grace period can’t last forever. While both political parties play whore to the defense industry, the people ourselves need to stand up to the emperor and admit he has no clothes. Our military bloat is not a path to security; it’s a purveyor of death & destruction.

Could have solved climate change with that money in those 20 years.

You seem to miss the point here. It is arguably WORSE for your presence.

Define “better.” Everything the US touches turns to shit.

Anyone else old enough to watch this #TRAINWRECK as an adult start to finish? I was 25 in 2001 living in a military town and lost count of the # of friends who enlisted who were just swallowed up by this country and eventually #IRAQ
That’s been inevitable since the day we set foot in there. If the country was run by decent, competent people we would have just found bin Laden without invading the whole country.

How was it a failure for them if a couple trillion dollars went to the war-makers?

What about all the shit they stole? That's not nothing.

Almost we should have never been there. There was never an end scenario. Foreign intervention has only created more radicalization.

Wizard of Oz= Afghanistan: All about poppies and minerals. You’d think you’d know that. 🥱 Considering your friends...

Exactly .. Afghanistan, and we can add Iraq .. but the true cost is much higher in the blood, displacement of civilians and the rise of ISIS . A complete and utter fxck up
