1/ On Julian Assange’s 50th birthday, it’s important to remember his case is not just about Julian Assange. It’s not even just about press freedom. It’s about horrible things being done by the US military that they did not want us to know about.

2/ Over 15,000 more Iraqi civilian deaths than has been reported. Blackwater mercenaries indiscriminately shooting into crowds. 700 civilians shot for getting too close to checkpoints, some of them men trying to get pregnant women to the hospital. Abuse. Rape.Torture. WAR CRIMES

3/ The government wants to freeze serious journalism when it comes to military secrecy because serious journalists go after the truth. Saying “he’s not a journalist” is particularly ridiculous given how many journalists in this country are more like fiction writers & they know it

4/ Our loyalty as citizens should not be to the government no matter what the government does; it should be to the principles of democracy & freedom. Assange revealed things classified not because they were a threat to our freedom but because they’re a threat to military secrecy.

5/ He is being treated so harshly for one reason only: to freeze disclosure and to freeze dissent. Injustice to Assange is an injustice to all of us. The crime here is not what he did; the crimes here are what he exposed. #FreeAssange

Assange has broken the law. He is not above the justice system. The alternative is not going to happen. The USA have made that quite clear.

What the US military did is irrelevant to this issue. Their laws have been broken and they will get justice.
Right on. From 1945 onward, it is corporate-military actions for resource control.

If one believes they are a liberal, but back fascism, which this is (the State imprisoning a journalist critical of the State. The State was also working with corporate entities to prevent Wikileaks from receiving money), you aren't practicing liberalism.
