Once an alcoholic admits the exact nature of their problem they can’t just start drinking less; they have to stop drinking. Our addiction to fossil fuels is no different and no less deadly.

Hahahahaha. Yeah, let’s go cold turkey on FFs today. That will work out great

but not everyone who drinks alcohol is addicted. That's where the metaphor breaks down.

We need fossil fuels though. They run our tractors and our trucks. We can't just cut them out like that. It's like telling a food addict to give up on food entirely.

Going cold turkey with fossil fuels would be problematic, to say the least, though the targets to cut them out are far too long.

This is a perfect picture of the problem though. You type this on an electronic device filled with plastic parts derived from fossil fuels. We need to find alternatives and make cutbacks but the world would literally shut down if we stopped using fossil fuels immediately.

*I gotta be the "well, ackshually guy", but alcohol withdrawal is the one addiction withdrawal that CAN be fatal on its own. It may be necessary to have a "drink less" stage before a "no drink" stage. I do agree with your larger point though.

I ❤️ you, but you’re going to be injured in one of these leaps of logic

Hear ya, but cold turkey from alcohol kills people(like if we cut fossil fuels asap hospitals go down). Both need to be slowly cut to 0.
