And the average American worker had a good job with good benefits, could own a house and a car, could take a yearly vacation, could send their kids to college, and one parent could stay home with the kids and not work if they wanted.

Hang on there a minute. I grew up in that house too. But my college grad mom didn’t exactly have a choice about staying home, it was expected that she would. I don’t want to go back in time, I want to change the present so high quality child care is affordable for all.

When i was HS senior in '72 you could get job paying enuf for apt with friend AND buy a used car, go on a drinking binge, get fired, and find a new job the next day. & repeat. 5 yrs later i pd full tuition for college & shared house rent with a PT job
