1/ If we really wanted to fight crime we would do more to prevent it. Right now we spend billions of dollars to suppress the symptom and ever diminished resources treating the cause.

2/ We need to massively front our resources in the direction of children, making every public school in America world class & providing free higher education. Raise minimim wage. Healthier food.We need UBI & free health care. Everything we do to diminish despair diminishes crime.

Andrew Yang's "Human Centered Capitalism" was the correct answer for this. It's all in his book and he talks about how to undo our scarcity mindset and replace it with one of abundance.

Our prison system is deeply punitive and spirit crushing. It doesn’t help people.

If we could take $50billion from military spending, we'd be able to do so much with that money. And the military would still have $700billion. But nah. We'd rather let our behemoth military spend money like a lottery winner with a cocaine habit.

We do that with everything. We could prioritize healthy diets, activity and mindsets, but then how would we sell the treatments for sick people? Our society literally has the mentality of a drug dealer.

Whenever I hear “fight crime” I hear, “put more POC folks in jail.” Historically that is what this rhetoric has translated into.

Marianne, we don't really want to fight crime bc capitalism requires a class to exploit. The poor and disenfranchised are needed to keep the system working.

I’ve been thinking about this in the last few days. How can we invest across the board in young people’s futures so that they have more security and safety and healthy possibility ahead? Our entire approach needs to change. some specific blank slate thinking is needed here.
