I do hope you're learning the obvious lesson here, @marwilliamson. Imperialists have been pushing an agenda in Hong Kong and you are actively facilitating that agenda when you boost their narratives.

So you think the Chinese Communist Party are the good guys there, and the protestors are just shills for the imperialists? Hardly the "obvious lesson."

"So you're saying the CCP are the good guys??" Hollywood has conditioned you to look for "good guys" and "bad guys" in every conflict. Your impulse to assess whether a nation on the other side of the world which poses no threat to you is "bad" is itself the result of propaganda.

"Caitlin you need to understand that the CCP are not the good guys." It will never stop being weird to me how many grown adults respond to mature geopolitical analysis by babbling about "good guys" and "bad guys" like children watching a cartoon show. Hollywood is brain poison.

Hong Kong's 'pro-democracy' movement allies with far-right US politicians that seek to crush Black Lives Matter thegrayzone.com/2020/06/09/h… via @TheGrayzoneNews

Many socialist take the weird position of being neutral to the CCP despite the racism and classicism enforced by the regime. Not worth arguing with them.

How does a democracy ensure preservation of human rights while still remaining a democracy?
Crying "Freedom Of The Press" when HK's Apple Daily Jimmy Lai screams treason begging a US invasion from the front page but not so much as a peep about Julian Assange or Press TV? It's so Apple Pie to live in a cherry-picked reality for the Red, White & Blue. Up, Up & Away!!!

There is a very strong track record of protesters supported by the US (NED, USAID, etc.) being right-wingers. Ukraine, Venezuela opposition, the Santa Cruz faction in Bolivia, etc. They don’t care about democracy; and yet our press invariably labels them “pro-democracy.”
Yeah that's how is works. There is always a clear good guy and an obviously very bad guy. This is an essential narrative device that treats every one as a 5 year old.
