An old world is angrily disintegrating. We can call it late stage capitalism or whatever, but it’s any political or economic system guided more by short term profit than by the needs of people and planet. The status quo is threatened by nothing so much as by radical compassion.

I see what you're saying Ms. Williamson, but capitalism is the root of our problems because the economics control everything else. If you can point out a problem that doesn't involve capitalism I would be intrigued. Also, thank you for responding.

Definitely I can! Money in politics. Deregulation. The Koch brothers. Dark money. Those things would corrupt whatever economic system we established. But I understand what you're saying; the overfinancialization of the world is definitely the core problem on a political level.

Money in politics is a direct result of capitalism. Capitalism has to continue to grow and profit, so the purchase of our legislators by the wealthy is a way for the capitalist to control our system to make the extraction of resources and exploitation of labor easier for them.
