“Radical compassion” please spare me; while certainly radical, I fail to find the “compassion” you cite in your neo-collectivist worldview. The “status quo” today is the highest standard of living for humanity in history. Forgive me if I don’t want you upsetting that.
An old world is angrily disintegrating. We can call it late stage capitalism or whatever, but it’s any political or economic system guided more by short term profit than by the needs of people and planet. The status quo is threatened by nothing so much as by radical compassion.

As one who’s benefited greatly from the status quo no one needs to tell me its upside. But that status quo is supposed to provide the greatest number of people the opportunity to experience its benefits. The American ideal is that all, not just some, should have a shot at winning

And I, like most Americans I would hope, agree with you there. Equality of opportunity is a central part of the American ethos; however, economic shifts away from capitalism are not the solution. The current status quo we enjoy is because of markets, not in spite of them.
