An old world is angrily disintegrating. We can call it late stage capitalism or whatever, but it’s any political or economic system guided more by short term profit than by the needs of people and planet. The status quo is threatened by nothing so much as by radical compassion.

No no no. Don't try to "or whatever" this. It is exactly late stage capitalism. Bc what other system right now is guided by short term profits? Don't try to muddy the waters. Thank you for finally, kinda, saying what the problem is.

Not all of us see the world through that filter. Feel free to if you wish, and others are free not to. There’s more going on than just economics.

It must be great living in your head: everything unpleasant lacquered with the rose-tinted veneer of your ignorant optimism. Plus, it’s certainly roomy in there.

The next time you go to a grocery store and see the well stocked shelves and the variety of products available, thank capitalism. For sure, capitalism has pros and cons but the pros give us a much better quality of life. Smart consumerism can defeat the cons.

Radical compassion, yes, but with healthy boundaries that encourage self reliance and not an enabling nanny state.
