I voted against a bill that would make Juneteenth National Independence Day a federal holiday. One of 14 Republicans to do so. This legislation is the culmination of decades of efforts by the Left to prevent unashamed celebrations of our national story, heritage, and history.

What, an “unashamed celebration” of slavery?? This bill makes an unashamed celebration of the day they ended it. It doesn’t replace July 4; if anything it gives it greater meaning. It celebrates our capacity to change and do better.

Preach! Every decent American is proud we ended slavery & proud we’re still striving to ensure all US have a right to life, liberty, & happiness. #JuneTeenth is the best of what we can do, an unashamed celebrations of our national story, heritage, and history.
