2/ Don’t buy for a minute that “we have to address root causes first” - the US government didn’t tell my grandparents we had to stop the pogroms before they could come here. I would have expected this from Trump, not from you @POTUS @VP

I mean my great grandparents weren’t allowed to immigrate to America from Ireland because my great grandfather had a heart condition. They ended up setting in Montreal. That saying hasn’t been true for a century.

From what I understand, that prior encouragement of immigration was part of the program of displacement of indigenous ppl from their land, so in essence nothing has ethically changed about us, has it?
