2/ Don’t buy for a minute that “we have to address root causes first” - the US government didn’t tell my grandparents we had to stop the pogroms before they could come here. I would have expected this from Trump, not from you @POTUS @VP

From what I remember of my history of Japan, When the japanese tokugawa shogunate closed the country (Sakoku) it lasted for 214 years. During this time, the population exploded. Business increased, schools were built, and everyone learned to read. Books were published.
