Bobby Kennedy was killed on this day in 1968. It’s impossible to describe the collective agony and grief people felt. First JFK in ‘63, then Martin in April ‘68, then Bobby in June. There wasn’t the expression PTSD yet but the country has been in it ever since. Only now emerging.

I cried when Bobby was shot, but collective grief? I experienced open relief from Nixonites. Weren't we ambivalent to the reality of death given 16,899 Americans were killed in 'Nam in 1968, (1,400 deaths per month)? 33% supported the War, then. 35% support Trump, now. Change?

And we still cannot do anything meaningful about gun reform.

There was also Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, and attempted assassinations of George Wallace and president Ford

I was 5 when JFK was murdered. I've never forgotten my Mom crying during the funeral broadcast. I'm telling you this was one of maybe a handful of times I ever saw her cry... Told me a lot even at that young age...

Millennials don’t know who JFK was, much less Bobby. And they teach Gen Z that Martin was the bad guy now

I’m 46. Wasn’t born at that time. I understand the history. But...the “country” hasn’t been in ptsd since. Your generation may have...but not mine and down. I think this is a fair observation.
