The filibuster is not codified in the constitution and the parliamentarian has only the power to advise. To allow either of them to stand between the people of the US and a thriving, sustainable future is both irresponsible and spineless. @POTUS

What happens when the politicians get full power to do whatever they want?

We have a Constitution with plenty of checks and balances. The filibuster wasn’t even introduced until 1806 and even then for racist purposes. It should not be treated as a sacred check on unfettered power.

What will republicans do if/when they take back the Senate? Why aren’t more people afraid of that?

We should be afraid of it, which is why we should get rid of the filibuster. If the Democrats don’t get rid of it they won’t be able to do the things more likely to guarantee them holding onto the House and Senate.

Is it really treated as a “sacred check on unfettered power” or only a bad thing when our guy is in office? As Obama said, it might answer to all the people, not just those with our party label.

The Senate is already inherently a check on unfettered majority rule by representing all states equally. The filibuster is just an excuse to not pass legislation, especially in it's current form.
