Disagreement with a policy choice (incorrect btw because Kennedy got us into Vietnam) does not mean that experience in government is not important and needed.

1/ We need to stop revising history here; it was Johnson who turned it into a full-scale war. And I don’t think experience *doesn’t* matter; my point is that it’s not a guarantee of wisdom & and there are many kinds of experience required for good leadership.

2/ When it comes to politics the traditional politician is like a car mechanic. We have a lot of excellent car mechanics but that’s not our problem; the problem is where the car is being driven. Given where we are now it’s astonishing how people continue to defend the status quo.
