Yeah but show me the Presidential candidate who wouldn’t have taken us into Nam. JFK? Pfft he was already escalating there and Laos. In terms of legislating LBJ was prob the most able president we’ve ever had.

In terms of legislation and domestic policy he was extraordinarily good. But that was my point. It was he, not Kennedy, who went full speed ahead in Vietnam.

Yes but I think Vietnam would’ve happened no matter who was president . We’d been there for years and the prevailing “domino theory” would’ve pulled us in as the South lost ground. Kennedy was already escalating. He’s the one who authorized Agent Orange.

That’s like saying no matter who was president we would’ve gone into Iraq. I can’t imagine a world in which Al Gore would’ve taken us into Iraq. And there were plenty of politicians at the time who disagreed with Johnson.
