It takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass voting rights, a $15 minimum wage, universal health care, gun violence prevention, and civil rights protections. But Republicans can cut taxes for their wealthy donors and corporations with a simple majority. How does this make sense?

Please clarify: “it does not…take 60 votes to pass those things. The filibuster is a self-imposed absurdity the Dems are choosing to maintain.”

What doesn't make sense is Dems keeping the filibuster, pretending they can't do anything about it, and setting themselves up to lose the House + Senate in 2022. Failing to deliver on campaign promises is a sure-fire way to turn off voter. "Our hands were tied!" won't cut it.

I agree it doesn't make sense. The question is what can Democrats do about it? And what can we do to help urge/encourage them in that direction?
