Big pharmaceutical companies tyrannize this country, providing life-saving drugs on one hand yet destroying lives through obscene profit margins and artificial creation of profit centers (opioids, etc.) on the other.
My last insulin prescription was $2,267.99 for a three month supply in the US.

Pharma's profit is the difference between the price and the minimum pharma is willing to accept. The customer's profit is the difference between the price and the maximum the customer is willing to pay. In most cases, the customer's profit is far greater than pharma's profit.

The insurance companies dictate what the consumer pays....that is our system. Rx makes up 15% of healthcare expenditures but administrative costs are 30%. We should really be mad that these companies receive 15k per year and only cover a small portion of costs.
