1/ MLK Jr. said there is “negative peace and positive peace.” Negative peace means there’s no outright conflict but there’s underlying tension and anxiety. He said positive peace can only be predicated on brotherhood and justice.

2/ When a ceasefire occurs, that doesn’t mean there will be a return to peace. There was no real peace in the region before. Peace is something we must proactively cultivate, through fundamental changes that will quell the fires not only on the streets but within people’s hearts.

3/ US promotes war more than we promote peace. We fund things that build conflict more than we fund things that build people’s lives. We export arms more than we export food or school books. We build more bombers than we build homes. So be saddened now yes but do not be surprised
