Anybody who thought the idea of a Department of Peace was a wacky idea might want to rethink that.

Pay the military industrial complex to not produce weapons, the same way we pay farmers to not produce

Mention that to Xi and his CCP regarding the ongoing Uyghur and Falun Gong genocide. They will only back down from these atrocities when we can back up our peaceful economic and trade sanctions with military force if need be.

It depends on who's running it, and their idea of what "peace" means. After all, the US has defined "democracy" for the world, and look how that's turned out.

“We need to have a far more robust relationship and partnership between those who prepare for war if war must come-and those who actually cultivate peace.” Marianne Williamson #USDepartmentOfPeace

I think it’s a wacky idea ... that could work. It could house a department of ethics with teeth.
The person who thought of this was Benjamin Rush in 1793, a Founding Father. "A plan of a Peace-Office for the United States" with equal footing with the Department of War promoting and preserving perpetual peace in the United States. America is an arms dealer so there's that.
