Caring well for our elderly should be a profession treated with honor and respect, just as caring for our children should be. Fair wages is among other things an acknowledgement of the value of one’s work; an issue of dignity as well as economic justice.

They should do the same for those who care for the disabled population, imo. I hope that other states follow suit.

My gut tells me that protecting the most vulnerable members of our society as well as providing for those who have spent much of their life energy building other people's wealth will in the end improve ALL aspects of society. The "hidden" costs of neglect are rarely considered.

That sounds like progress!

I made less than 15 wiping a centenarian’s butt as a home healthcare provider. Is that a fair wage? I am a senior with experience and training.

Having worked in aging for 30 years, this is a topic near and dear to my heart. In the home care industry, common issues are 1. Lack of respect 2. Low pay 3. Erratic schedules 4. Dangerous, physically demanding work 5. Lack of health insurance benefits 5. A 40% turnover rate.

Let's not forget that @GovNedLamont (a Democrat) was willing to use the military to pressure workers into a worse deal.

Here in Japan care homes often employ the children of the residents. I know people who are thrilled to have good jobs taking care of their parents and their parents' friends. In some places, housing is included in the posting.
