I’ve been ambivalent about this. Conversation with women’s groups in Afghanistan would’ve been a large factor in my decision-making. Even before 9/11 the Taliban was a source of brutal behavior towards women there. Truly horrifying.

This is Afghanistan before US-funded & armed the Mujahideen — religious extremists who destroyed feminism & women’s rights. 70% of Afghan teachers & 40% of doctors were women then. Today only 1-in-3 girls can read or go to school and 1 million Afghan women are heroin addicts.
