She’s fantastic, and she has an uphill battle ahead of her. I wish we had candidates like her here where I am. I love the surge of young, progressive candidates we are seeing around the country, and we need more in the south and rural America with her vision and policy positions.

Rural West Tennessee, not near Memphis. We’ve had some solid progressive candidates for state reps, even in local races for municipal positions, but there is no organized messaging or local support for progressives out here so it’s tough.

I love Odessa, I’ve supported her since she launched her campaign. We are in different districts, mine is outside of Nashville where she is, and outside of Memphis where more progressive support is. We had some great candidates in my district, they had a tough time though.

I would love to run, I spoke with a few organizations on this platform that support rural dems and progressives about the idea. But as much as I want to, it’s not likely I could. I’m hoping that some of the candidates we’ve had in our district run again, and I’ll support them.

All of us just have to keep pushing, whether we’re candidates or supporting someone else’s. We have an opening now but the right wing will try to shut it all down in ‘22. We have to work really hard now to keep things moving.

I plan to do as much as I possibly can locally to support progressives here. 2022 will be more consequential than 2020 and I believe that whole heartedly concerning congressional representation especially in places like TN. The right offers nothing of substance to rural America.

During my presidential campaign I gave a talk in rural Tennessee. I remember it was a big restaurant that had a stage on it and the place was packed and people were so great. There are a lot of wonderful people in the South. Something new is blossoming there.
