I feel so pressured into saying the pledge of allegiance because everyone else is doing it. I hate saying the pledge. It’s so dumb and mindless. This statement gives off the same heebie jeebie vibes.

I actually like the Pledge of Allegiance. The fact that I put my hand in front of my heart when I was a little girl & pledged allegiance to "One nation ... with liberty and justice for all" is part of what turned me into a woman who gets really pissed when I see it not happening.

I read it as a reaffirmation of our national motto “E pluribus unum”-a call to unite as one for the betterment of all. I’m sure the usual suspects will deride it. We need this, really. These fissures only make us weaker and suspicious of everyone-see our handling of the pandemic

John Adams said he hoped that every July 4 we would "revisit our first principles." I agree we need to revisit them, remember them & teach them to our children. Especially in school! But to me that's different than a "Loyalty Day." If DJT had done this we'd be out of our minds.

It is creepy but it is not new. First proclaimed in 1958 at height of “red scare” (Public Law 85-529 in text) and reaffirmed each year.

So if you liked a lot of Biden's speech, why aren't you highlighting the myriad of things many of us have busted our butts for in the last elections ... addressing inequity & racism, bringing internet and health care & infrastructure to the poor?

Creepy, idiotic and borderline fascist!

How do we get "will of the people" when less than one percent of people control the world and impose their agenda on the rest ?
