It's actually worse than everyone imagines. Money that was supposed to be used to protect against Covid was funneled to defense contractors to build armaments. The greatest battle against disease and viruses in our lifetimes and the MIC still swindled $.

There was no standing army at the beginning of World War II so of course they had to build one. It was turning the machinery of war into a profit-making venture afterwards that Eisenhower so rightly criticized.
