I agree in principle...but there are cognitive limits to human attention capacity and that has to be factored into the equation. The onus can't be all on the people. The institutions have to force evil into the open and give them a path to correct it.

Democracy is majority rule, if we had that we'd have: M4A Green New Deal Free college Guaranteed vacation time Guaranteed maternity leave Higher minimum wage Higher taxes on the wealthy Less military spending Etc, etc... And why don't we? Because we have rule by the few.

Democracy is now a clear illusion, we elect candidates, but we do not select them. What is the quid pro quo of those selected to “represent “ the people. Who do they actually represent and serve?

are democracy and authoritarianism entirely different though? I think individual liberty is the opposite of authoritarianism, and direct democracy can certainly threaten that. I couldn't imagine the kinda laws panicked germophobes could create without civil liberties.
