Or maybe the problem is the word “fight”. And why it’s used so arbitrarily and performatively in a democracy. Habitually using violent rhetoric in regard to civil governance might just be counterproductive clowning.
Every time a politician says they will “go to Washington and fight for you,” we should ask ourselves why it should be such a fight for every American to have a fair shot at a decent life.

Yeah. When I was campaigning I always said “I don’t want to go to Washington and fight for you, I want to go to Washington and create a better world with you.”

It gets used most by people who’ve never been in an actual fight and tend to outsource their emergencies. It’s a tired metaphor that wreaks of cowardice.
