Um, you are right about how it was used to " back up American values". This is precisely the problem ⚠️ It should be used to protect people from oppression, not used as a weapon to oppress which it has only done since its conception.
Our military was once viewed with great respect around the world, seen as a power used for the most part to back up American values. Today it’s often viewed with great disdain around the world, seen as a power used for the most part to back up American corporate interests.

Clearly, WW2 saw the high-point of respect for the US Military, certainly in popular culture. That doesn't mean there wasn't already a long history of abuse and depredations by the US military before WW2...

Aw, I will give you that one, but remember it took a few years for the USA to act. So just how much did the government being done to citizens of Europe? I still have doubts it was thinking about freeing them from oppression.
